GCMS Notes can normally be obtained in 4-5 weeks. The Ottawa office in Canada is required to respond to GCMS request within 30 working days. Please note that in rare circumstances the Ottawa office may take longer to process requests. According to IRCC Ottawa the legislated timeframe for processing a GCMS request is 30 calendar days. IRCC can extend the time limit to respond to a request beyond the 30 calendar days if:

• the request is for a large number of records or requires a search through a large number of records, and the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with the operations of IRCC
• external consultations are necessary and cannot reasonably be expected to be completed within the original time limit or
• notice to a third party is required to advise him or her that his or her information is the subject of a request

If the deadline falls on a weekend or on a holiday, the due date becomes the next business day. Please note that due to the volume of requests that IRCC processes, it is not unusual for responses to be sent late in the day of the due date.
